Arnold Labrie (Amsterdam, 1953) is appointed as professor for Social and Cultural History. After his Gymnasium-bèta education, he studied History at the University of Amsterdam (1979; cum laude), where he also received his PhD (1986, cum laude) and worked until 1992, when he came to Maastricht. He is a former fellow of the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences at Wassenaar (1984-1985) and was visiting professor at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster (1998-2001). He has served on several boards and committees, both nationally and internationally, and is currently closely attached to the Dutch researchschool for Cultural History (Huizinga Instituut), the Institute for German Studies in Amsterdam  and  the Institut für Europäische Geschichte in Mainz.
