• Guest Professor at Brown University, Providence, RI (USA) in 1998
• Ph.D. thesis on "Space, Spatial Language and Textual Space" (Raum, Raumsprache und Sprachräume), completed 1995 in Kassel under the guidance of Winfried Nöth, and won the award of the German Association of Semiotics in 1996
