UM is participating in this year's Open Monument Days. There are activities and openings at four locations, Tapijn, Kruithuis, Zwingelput and Hof van Tilly. Below is an overview of the programming, which is in both Dutch and English, at UM.

In the Kruithuis of the Bonnefantenbleek, an exhibition on Maastricht's powder houses has been set up. Demonstrations will also be given at the powder house by members of the Maastricht Historical Artillery Association.

Jesuit Garden on the Tongersekat
On Saturday 9 September, the Jesuit Garden will be open, which is actually a raised hill on which a battery of cannons used to stand. The Jesuit Fathers' monastery was built in 1939 on the site of the Tongers Barracks, which had been located on the south side of Tongersestraat until 1898.

Monastery chapel of the Nieuwenhof
The chapel of the Sisters of the Nieuwenhof is exceptionally opened by Maastricht University this afternoon. Photo images will be projected in the chapel about the history of the chapel by the nuns and later users.

Tapijn: Guided tours of the Tapijn Campus with guides from Maastricht University
Guides from Maastricht University will provide tours of the restored barracks complex. The tours start every 20 minutes, between 10am and 3pm, and last about an hour.

Lecture: From soldiers barracks to study house – about the history of the Tapijnkazerne
City fortifications specialist Jos Notermans will give a lecture on the history of the Tapijnkazerne. Registration is obligatory.

Dancing on the Tapijn
In the 1950s/60s, you could dance on Sunday afternoons in the Stadspark, at d'n Ingelsen Hoof. On Saturday afternoon 9 September, we will revive a bit of nostalgia, and you can dance to live music between 3pm and 4pm. Not at d'n Ingelsen Hoof, but at the Tapijn's Appèlplaats. The Maastricht quartet Sjeng, Sjer en de Sjele will perform a unique mix of country, blues, folk, hoempapa... and a lot of fun! Prepare for a musical experience full of energy, emotion and, above all, fun!

Sunday, 10 September
Lecture about the Brothers of Maastricht & Guided tour in English language by Jac van den Boogard
In the former gymnastics hall of the Hof van Tilly, Jac van de Boogard will give a lecture on the history of the educational institutions of the Broeders van de Beyart. Following this lecture, Jac will make a tour of the brothers’ schools with the guests. Registering is obligatory.
