Collaborative Ecologies for Classical Music
Where can classical music organisations turn in times of declining funding, ageing audiences and an uncertain future? In the project 'Collaborative Ecologies in Creative Cities', the Maastricht Centre for the Innovation of Classical Music (MCICM) together with the Sheffield Performing Arts Research Centre (SPARC) investigated the power of collaboration.
By sharing ideas and building networks, we can increase the resilience of classical music practice. We invite music practitioners, music teachers and students, orchestral musicians, directors and administrators, as well as academic and artistic researchers discuss what fruitful and effective local and regional collaborations are during the networking afternoon on 22 November 2024 with Prof Stephanie Pitts, Director of the Sheffield Performing Arts Research Centre (SPARC), University of Sheffield. Her research and teaching interests are in musical participation, concert audiences and music education, and in the qualitative research methods used to understand people’s uses of music in their everyday lives.
