All Quiet on the Western Front
Studium Generale | Movie
Pacifist war film adapted from a novel by German author Erich Maria Remarque.
The film follows a group of German schoolboys, talked into enlisting at the beginning of World War I.
As the boys witness death and mutilation all around them, any preconceptions about ‘the enemy’ and the ‘rights and wrongs’ of the conflict disappear, leaving them angry and bewildered.
Winner of two Academy Awards, including best picture.

The screening will be preceded by a short introduction in Dutch by Prof. G. Verbeeck, Professor of German History at the Faculty of Arts and Science, UM Maastricht.
