This means you have to have completed all admission and enrolment tasks in the MyApplication portal (except the tasks ‘Arrange visa / legal residence’ and ‘Send certified copy of diploma’) before we can send your application to the IND (Dutch Immigration and Naturalisation Service).

We have to send the application to the IND before 1 July if you are starting your studies in September. Please note: A few pre-master's and master's programmes offer a start in February. If you are applying to start your studies in February, we have to send the application to the IND before 1 December. You can find out if your study programme offers a start in February on the admission requirements web page of that programme (pre-master’s, master’s).

Therefore, we strongly recommend that you reconsider applying for this study programme if you are not sure that you will meet the following requirements before 1 July/1 December (if applicable in your situation):

  • Having remedied all subject and/or language deficiencies (if applicable)
  • Having qualified for admission to your study programme, including being selected (if applicable to your study programme) AND
  • Having paid the tuition fee for your study programme

General requirements: previous education

Your previous education determines wether you qualify for admission to the master Physician - Clinical Researcher. Read below which admission requirements from academic year 2025-2026 apply to you.

With only a bachelor's degree from a university of applied sciences (HBO), you do not have access to the master Physician - Clinical Researcher.

If you already have a bachelor's degree in Medicine from a Dutch university, you are not eligible for admission to the master's A-KO. This is a general, national rule.

Graduates of a university bachelor's programme in a relevant field

The research master Physician - Clinical Researcher is in principle open to students with an equivalent university bachelor's degree with a biomedical signature. With an equivalent degree, you must have obtained at least 90 credits (ECTS) in biomedical and/or science-related subjects. In addition, at least five of the following subjects must have been sufficiently covered:

Anatomy/Embryology and Histology; Physiology of organs in thorax and abdomen; Hormonal regulatory systems; Immunology; (Molecular) Cell Biology and Genetics; Metabolism (carbohydrate, protein and lipid metabolism); Science-related subjects (Epidemiology, Methodology and Statistics); Nervous system.

Examples of relevant previous education are:

By the way, these are just a few examples of relevant study programmes; other programmes can also lead to an equivalent degree. Your individual choices in electives, minor and major internships may cause the total biomedical credits to be below or above the required 90 credits.

Upon application, all previous education will be tested for equivalence requirements. Should your degree not meet the equivalence requirements, you will not be considered for participation in round 1 of the selection procedure.
