WiDS Maastricht Conference 2024 - Tech Talk Speaker 1

WiDS Maastricht Conference 2024 Rolina van Gaalen (RIVM)
Dr. Rolina van Gaalen

Dr. Rolina van Gaalen studied mathematics at the University of Western Ontario (Canada) and completed a Ph.D. in epidemiology at McGill University (Canada) while working part time at Pfizer Canada. She moved to the Netherlands to work at the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) in the mathematical modeling department within the Center for Infectious Diseases Control
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Rolina led a team of data scientists on the high-pressure Covid-19 dossiers to develop automated daily reports, open datasets, and monitoring tools in collaboration with stakeholders from various sectors. Building on the success of the Covid-19 work, Rolina led the development of a comprehensive vision and workflow for surveillance pipelines with the data science team. This workflow is currently being implemented in almost 30 other surveillance processes within the center. As of February, Rolina leads the development of the RIVM’s vision for data science within the Institute.

At the WiDS Maastricht Conference on Thursday 7 March 2024, Dr. Van Gaalen will hold the first Tech Talk, entitled "Automating infectious diseases surveillance pipelines during the pandemic and into the future".
