Study advisers

Students at Maastricht University can consult a study adviser to discuss their personal development and plans for the future. Want to get the most as possible out of your study? And wonder how you can bring your study and extracurricular activities more in line with your goals? Together with a study adviser you can examine how you can develop your talents and skills further.

Each faculty has its own study adviser(s)

The study adviser is well-informed about the possibilities within your study and faculty. He or she will help you determine you how you can shape your study to your advantage. The study adviser will coach you and help you to make good choices. For example, you will make a study plan together. He or she might also refer you to somebody else who can help you progress even further. This could be a UM Student Dean, Disability Support, Career Services or a UM Psychologist.

Study delay? Or need an extra challenge? Get help on time.

As soon as you notice that you will incur study delay you should get help. Do not wait. Especially if you think that your study delay is due to illness or family circumstances. It is important that you inform your study adviser or the student dean of this within two months.

The same applies as soon as you notice you need an extra challenge: do not wait too long. Your study adviser can help you with broadening or deepening your programme.

Sometimes the study adviser takes the initiative

Are your study results falling behind considerably? Or is a binding study advice (BSA) required? Then the study adviser can plan an appointment with you. Especially during the first year of your study. This does not apply to all faculties. Of course you can always ask your study adviser whether this applies in your faculty.

Make an appointment with your study adviser

Some study advisers offer personal appointments. Others can be consulted by phone. The table below shows you how best to get in touch with your study adviser.
