The Maastricht Centre for Taxation offers one bachelor programme, and six master specialisations at Maastricht University. We also offer courses for non-tax students of European Law School and other programmes as well as tailor-made courses for executive programmes.
Bachelor's, master's, and executive studies
MCT contributes education and research expertise to the following academic programmes:
Fiscaal Recht (bachelor)
Combines legal, economical and fiscal courses. You’ll learn all about (international) tax laws and about different types of taxes, such as wage tax and income tax. But it also includes courses on private, administrative and constitutional law. Upon graduation, you’ll be able to advise multinationals, self-employed entrepreneurs, and friends and family about the legal aspects of the tax system.
Fiscaal Recht: Directe Belastingen (master)
Fiscaal Recht: Indirecte Belastingen (master)
Fiscaal Recht: Tax and Technology (master)
International and European Tax Law: General Programme (master)
Study a broad range of economic, legal, and social topics. Gain hands-on experience with real-life cases involving complex international tax issues. Entirely in English, though an advanced Dutch course in corporation tax meets requirements for the Dutch Association of Tax Advisors. Almost all students find legal or financial consultants jobs soon after graduation.
International and European Tax Law: Customs and International Supply Chain Taxation (master)
This specialisation prepares you for an international career in the field of trade-related taxation. You will gain in-depth knowledge of customs law, VAT, excise duties, CBAM and trade defence instruments, such as anti-dumping duties. The programme teaches you how tax law, trade law and international commerce interact, and how fiscal and regulatory measures shape global supply chains. You will also explore current and complex issues, including customs valuation, VAT fraud, sustainability and carbon border pricing. In addition, courses on corporate taxation broaden your knowledge of topics such as transfer pricing and tax compliance. Through your master’s thesis, you will conduct independent academic research on a topic within customs and international supply chain taxation.
International and European Tax Law: Tax and Technology (master)
This specialisation prepares you for the future of tax law by focusing on the growing role of data, digitalisation and artificial intelligence. You will learn how technological developments are reshaping taxation and how computational methods can be used to analyse and improve tax systems. The programme teaches you to bridge the gap between tax law and technology by translating substantive tax knowledge into data-driven and practical solutions. Through technology-focused courses, you will explore topics such as computational modelling, artificial intelligence, large language models, blockchain, privacy and legal protection. This enables you to develop the skills needed to address real-world tax challenges in an increasingly digitalised tax environment.
