Food for thought: which insights does the current corona crisis give us? SBE alumnus Roger Schils shares his points of view in this blog. ''A crisis makes us realise that the economy should work for people and not the other way around.''

Corona crisis initiatives by UM alumni

Contributing through market research translated to policy

''At Etil research group, we are currently experiencing a very 'unique' period in our almost 90 years of existence. The world is changing rapidly, especially in these times of crisis. A lot of flexibility and inventiveness is required from organisations, companies and the people who are working for them. Decisions at every level - operational, tactical and strategic - ust be taken based on reliable facts and insights.

My ambition is to share this basis for decision making as widely as possible. For this purpose, we have launched www.arbeidsmarktinzicht.nl, among other things. ArbeidsmarktInZicht is an open, online platform with transparent information, data, visuals and articles by experts about trends and developments in the (regional) labour market, i.e. all the information needed for a transparent labour market.

We are already seeing in our data and analyses that the coronavirus has had and will continue to have an enormous impact on our society and we would like to share this with everyone so that you (and your organisation) can better anticipate the future with this knowledge and these insights.

With our own SkillsInZicht solution, we are going to try to analyse the demand in the labour market according to sectors and professions and to link it to the demand for skills. This skills DNA of professions will become available in April. This will create a detailed picture to help further strengthen the cooperation between government, academia and industry.''

The Hub is staffed by a Brussels-based team: a European Union (EU) Liaison Officer & Policy Advisor and a Communications Advisor & Community Manager.  Within UM, they operate the Hub in close coordination with UM colleagues at central and faculty level.

At the Hub, they will also work together with YUFE and ASPHER on strategic activities, drawing upon their combined knowledge, experience, and networks. Through this collaborative arrangement, all parties stand to gain from shared resources and expertise, with the Hub aiming to generate new synergies, nurture ongoing initiatives, and stimulate new activities.

As a service to its students, UM can record lectures so that students can watch them later. This can be an audio or an audio and video recording.

Students are kept out of the picture as much as possible by placing cameras in a fixed place and alerting students to the recording in advance.

If you are recognizable in a recording of a lecture and you object to this, you can report this in writing to the MediaSite administrator of your faculty. Where possible, the administrator of MediaSite in your faculty will take measures to make you unrecognisable in the recording.

The system that makes it possible to watch recorded lectures keeps track of user statistics, such as how long a lecture has been watched and by whom. The faculty key-user has access to these statistics, but only provides them in anonymised form to others, including lecturers. UM has a legitimate interest in keeping these statistics, because they are used to improve the service to students and measures have been taken to reduce the impact on students’ privacy to a minimum

Recordings of lectures will only be made available to students enrolled in the course to which the lecture relates; they will not be made publicly available to everyone.

Guest lecturers

Guest teachers are asked by means of a consent form for their consent to make a recording . This consent may be withdrawn at any time. Withdrawal of consent has no retroactive effect.
