Department of Advanced Computing Sciences

The Department of Advanced Computing Sciences is Maastricht University’s largest and oldest department, covering a broad range of fields, including artificial intelligence, data science, computer science, mathematics, robotics, and cybersecurity.

Over 100 researchers work in the department, whose roots trace back to 1987.

About us

The department’s activities span the entire spectrum from curiosity-driven research to responsible societal applications, often taking on an interdisciplinary character. Our contributions to areas such as multi-agent systems, (medical) signal and image processing, FAIR principles, game theory, intelligent search techniques, and affective computing are internationally recognized.

With staff and students coming from over 50 different countries, the Department of Advanced Computing Sciences maintains an inclusive and highly international working environment. We embrace team science, interdisciplinary thinking, and flat hierarchies as core values of our community.
