"Targeting CD36 and v-ATPase for diabetic cardiomyopathy treatment"
Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a heart condition linked to diabetes, caused by excessive fat buildup due to CD36, a protein that relocates to the cell surface, increasing fat uptake and impairing heart function. This thesis explores strategies to prevent CD36’s relocation and address fat overload.
It begins by examining the diabetic heart’s shift from glucose to fat reliance, driven by proteins like v-ATPase (Chapter 1) and highlights CD36’s central role in fat processing as a treatment target (Chapter 2). Subsequent chapters explore how fat overload causes insulin resistance, oxidative stress, and inflammation (Chapter 3).
The research investigates therapies, including traditional Chinese medicine compounds like Resveratrol and Quercetin (Chapters 4-5) and experimental approaches such as supplements and inhibitors to regulate CD36 and v-ATPase function (Chapters 6-7).
The findings provide insights into reducing fat accumulation, restoring heart function, and improving treatments for diabetic patients.
