Based on two recent real-life events, we would like to explore in groups what the positive and negative (economic) impacts of new economic activities are for society. Specifically, we will zoom in on the role of law in protecting these various interests, specifically the perspective of manufacturers vs. environmental organisations. Case 1 – Tradability of nitrogen rights – making activities possible vs. protecting nature Case 2 – Ground water usage in buffer zones – historical right vs. EU Habitat protection laws
