More temporary (student) homes in Maastricht
The Municipality of Maastricht is allowing construction of new temporary housing, for for instance students. Economic growth and the standstill in property development during the financial crisis have led to an increased housing demand in Maastricht. In addition, prices have risen, leading to a shortage in affordable rental properties for specific target groups such as students.
This shortage is not expected to drop in the next 10 years, one of the reasons for which is the expected increase in the number of students following the start of a number of new programmes at UM in September of 2019. The Municipality of Maastricht is allowing construction of a maximum of 500 new temporary homes.
