Department of Finance
Welcome to the Department of Finance at Maastricht University where we are committed to high-quality teaching and research. We aim to combine, in both, academic rigor with real-world impact.
We educate at the Bachelor, Master, PhD and Executive level. Our teaching is research based, and reflects our experience that a successful finance professional is able to work with other disciplines and has a thorough knowledge of both theory and practice. We teach undergraduate courses in the entire program, offer master programs in Financial Economics, Sustainable Finance, Marketing Finance and Strategic Corporate Finance, and engage in executive teaching through UMIO on our MA Programme Executive Master in Cultural Leadership (with the Royal Academy of Arts in London) and the Global Real Estate Leaders Program.
The same applies to our research. We publish in top academic journals in finance and economics, but our definition of successful research goes beyond that: we continuously strive to create practical applications, and some of our key faculty members have turned their academic ideas into prospering businesses. A lot of our research is disseminated through our research institute, which include the European Center for Sustainable Finance, the Maastricht Center for Real Estate (MCRE), and Marketing-Finance Exchange Center of Excellence (MFX COE). We also carry out behavioral finance research as part of the BEE lab and Behavioral Insights Center, collaborate with Netspar, the leading Dutch pension fund research group, and contribute to the Business Intelligence and Smart Services (BISS) institute with our research on pension communication, big data and asset pricing.
