Inaugural lecture of Prof.dr. Anne J. Roefs
Appointed to professor of "Psychology and Neuroscience of Abnormal Eating” in the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience
Title of the lecture: “How your mind can beat the power of food”
Obesity has become an epidemic in the Western world. Within the context of the obesogenic environment, biology is the main focus of research and explanations for this epidemic. People with the wrong genes, disturbances in the physiological control of appetite, or who have an overactive neural reward system are the ones who develop obesity. But does biology really always come first? How may psychology, your mind, affect your biology? Can your mind beat the power of food?
