Update #10: cyber attack UM

Please check out our FAQ list

Our experts are still working very hard to make all UM systems operational again. The most important education-related computers systems have been up and running again, albeit to a limited extent.

Reset your password before Monday 6 January

We advise students and staff to change their passwords from outside the UM network before Monday, 6 January. Students can do this by logging in to the Student Portal. Staff can do this by logging in to UM intranet. You will be automatically asked to modify your password. Please note: don’t go for the "password recovery" option!

Many users have heeded the call to reset their passwords. At the time of publication of this update, more than 15000 users changed their login details. Please note that you don’t actually have to come to the university to reset your password.

Main updates FAQ

  • Activities for prospective students

These events were already fully booked before Christmas. For those of you who have signed up for these events, please report to the reception of the relevant faculty at 10.00 a.m. If you have any questions, please send an email to info@m-u.nl  Online registration for activities scheduled for after 12 January is expected to be possible via the UM website by the end of next week.

  • Academic ceremonies
In January the academic ceremonies will take place according to schedule.
  • Alumni

As a result of the cyber attack, both the general alumni email account alumni@maastrichtuniversity.nl and your personal UM account have been blocked temporarily. All email messages sent to or from these accounts from 23 December 2019 will be available as soon as these accounts are active again. We will then be able to process them. The cyber attack has not affected the accounts and passwords for the Alumni Portal. Of course, you’re advised to change your password regularly in accordance with the UM password protocol.
For (urgent) questions related to alumni matters, such as the organisation and registration of the upcoming Star Lectures Event on 6 February, you can send an email to muo@m-u.nl for the time being.
