UnliMited-Students Buddy Programme
UnliMited-Students buddy programme aims to provide one-to-one peer support for UM students with (in) visible disabilities, chronic illnesses, and neurodivergence. University life can often be quite challenging and connecting with someone who may have similar experiences can make a big difference!
Through this programme, you will be paired with a buddy – a fellow student with a disability, chronic illness and/or neurodivergence. We will do our best to match you with a buddy based on your personal situation and preferences such as gender, study programme, or specific needs. However, please note we cannot guarantee a perfect match due to the availability of participants.
This programme is informal and flexible. You and your buddy can decide how often to meet and what kind of support works best for both of you. This may look differently for every buddy pair. Your connection might involve casual coffee meet-ups, study sessions, exchanging messages, or simply checking in from time to time. The goal is to build a mutual and respectful support system!
Meet Your Buddy event
To help you get started, we’re hosting a Meet Your Buddy event on Tuesday, 18 March, at 15:00. This will give you the opportunity to meet your buddy in person in a relaxed setting. More details will be shared soon, and for those who can’t attend, alternative dates will be arranged.
Expectations and boundaries for the programme
To ensure a positive experience for everyone involved, here are some of the programme’s expectations and boundaries:
- Conversations between buddies should remain private. Respect each other’s boundaries and personal information.
- The programme is for peer support, not a replacement for professional counseling or academic accommodations.
- Everyone has different comfort levels. Respect your buddy’s needs regarding communication frequency, meeting preferences, and topics of discussion.
