As a teacher, how confident are you in your digital skills? Discover your capabilities in just 25 minutes
Every educator today teaches, learns, and collaborates in a digital world. Maastricht University invites all teaching staff to take part in the Jisc Discovery Tool pilot – a short, evidence-based self-assessment to explore your digital strengths and plan your professional development.
In just 25 minutes, you’ll receive a personalised, interactive report showing your confidence levels across key areas such as online teaching, collaboration, media literacy, AI use, and digital wellbeing. You’ll also get curated learning resources – short videos, courses, and guides – to support your growth.
The pilot is open until January 2026 and accessible via UM Single Sign-On (SSO).
Why take part
Digital competence has become as essential as subject expertise. From AI and data use to online collaboration, every educator now operates in a digital environment.
By participating, you will:
- Gain insight into your current digital capabilities;
- Identify areas for further growth;
- Access reliable, ready-to-use learning resources;
- Contribute to how UM supports educators in digital transformation.
Participation is voluntary, anonymous, and not assessed — it’s a space for reflection, not evaluation.
What you’ll get
After completing the self-assessment, you’ll receive:
- A personalised, downloadable report;
- A clear overview of your strengths and growth areas;
- Targeted next steps and trusted learning materials.
You can use your report in your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) portfolio or as a basis for future training.
How it works
- Time required: 20-25 minutes
- Access: Via UM Single Sign-On (SSO)

About the pilot
This initiative is part of UM’s Digital Literacy Vision for Educators 2025–2027 and contributes to the national Npuls Centre for Teaching & Learning project on Digital Literacy for Educators.
Coordinated by the University Library and EDLAB, and supported by Npuls, the pilot helps UM understand educators’ current needs and design future workshops, training, and support. Nationally, Npuls will analyse anonymised results from all universities to create a sector-wide report with recommendations for strengthening digital competences in higher education.
After the pilot
Insights from the pilot will guide new development opportunities at UM and contribute to a national roadmap for digital literacy.
By participating now, you help shape how universities across the Netherlands prepare educators for a digitally confident future.
Your data is safe
- Your results are confidential and visible only to you.
- Data is processed by Jisc (UK) according to data protection regulations.
- UM and Npuls receive only aggregated, anonymised data to identify shared development needs.
- All personal data is retained only for the duration of the pilot.
This activity may count towards your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) if relevant to your situation.
