School of Business and Economics achieves top scores in National Student Survey for fifth year in a row

Each year, students across the Netherlands evaluate the quality of their universities and study programmes through the National Student Survey (NSE). In this year’s results, the School of Business and Economics (SBE) at Maastricht University achieved excellent outcomes: on average, our bachelor’s programmes were ranked first in the Netherlands, while our master’s programmes ranked second. Students highlighted in particular our strong connection to professional practice, high levels of involvement and contact, and the quality of our English-taught education—at both bachelor and master level. We are very proud of this recognition and, as always, will continue to use student feedback to further strengthen and improve our programmes.

How SBE will use the results for continuous improvement

While SBE scored well overall, the School will take a close look at students’ feedback, including the answers to the survey’s open-ended questions. Mark Vluggen, Associate Dean of Teaching and Learning, stresses the importance of the National Student Survey. “We use our students’ feedback to continuously improve the quality of education at our School. Over the years, we have responded to the feedback by expanding the availability of study spaces, moving away from traditional multiple-choice exams in many courses, and reshaping the thesis writing process. Last year, for example, we carefully reviewed the study load in master’s programmes with intensive project components to ensure their feasibility. I would like to thank our students who have taken the time to fill in this survey!”

About the NSE

The NSE is an annual nationwide satisfaction survey for students. All students in Dutch higher education are asked to give their opinion on their study programme and university. You can find more information about this on the National Student Survey website.
