Ministry invests 4 million in UM legal research with Sectorplan
The Ministry of Education, Culture and Science has invested 4 million euros to strengthen research at the Faculty of Law. The funds are being used to form two interdisciplinary research groups, Globalization & Law Network and Law & Tech Lab, as well as to promote young research talent.
The new Globalization & Law Network (GLaw-Net) brings together scholars from different fields of law (administrative, constitutional, criminal, private, tax) to study the role that law plays in a globalizing society from a holistic perspective. The aim is to understand how globalization is challenging legal systems, the societal consequences of these changes, and how legal actors and instruments should be adapted to respond to these challenges.
The Law & Tech Lab aims to build a creative community of researchers, teachers, students and practitioners at the intersections of law, technology, data science and knowledge engineering.
These groups have already attracted exciting new research talent. Valentina Golunova is conducting PhD research with GLaw-Net on the dynamics of the EU intermediary liability framework and its impact on freedom of expression and information online. Law & Tech Lab PhD candidate Andreea Grigoriu is working on understanding the phenomena of online harassment on social media, specifically abusive language.
