Margriet Schreuders appointed director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusivity (DEI+)
The Executive Board of Maastricht University (UM) has appointed Margriet Schreuders as the new director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusivity (DEI+)*. She will assume this strategic position from 1 January 2026. With this move, Margriet will leave her current position as director of the Student Services Centre (SSC) after a period of almost five years. She started at the SSC on 1 February 2021.
The Executive Board expresses its thanks to Margriet for her dedication and leadership at the SSC over the past years. Pamela Habibovic: ‘The Student Services Centre is an essential part of our university, and we are grateful to Margriet for the tremendous commitment she, together with the entire team, has shown over the past period. Her people-oriented, balanced personality has contributed to a reliable and responsible management of the centre. As the Executive Board, we look forward to continuing our cooperation with Margriet.’
About the new position
In her new role as Director DEI+, Margriet will have a key role in achieving an inclusive and safe learning and working environment for everyone at the university. She will focus on realising a university where everyone feels safe, seen and valued regardless of background, belief or identity. As director, she will be responsible for shaping, further developing and securing the institutional DEI+ policy while also acting as an ambassador for and advisor and sparring partner on diversity, inclusion and equity.
Margriet Schreuders on this next step
Margriet is excited about her new appointment: ‘I look forward with great enthusiasm to contributing, together with the DEI+ team, to an academic climate in which diversity is self-evident and equity is the basis. It is an honour to be able to contribute to this important mission. At the same time, I am incredibly grateful for the fine years at the SSC. The cooperation with my colleagues there has been especially valuable to me. Their commitment, knowledge and dedication make a difference to our students every day, and it has been a privilege to be part of that. With that valuable experience in my pocket, I can take this new step with confidence. I look forward to working with colleagues from all faculties, service centres and departments to further build on embedding the DEI+ strategy throughout the university.’
