ICCC 2024 international finals: UM team runner-up and winner of individual prize
The international finals of the Brown-Mosten International Client Consultation Competition (ICCC) took place in Lublin, Poland, in the second week of April 2024. The finals were organized by the Catholic University of Lublin. Teams from 22 countries from all over the world participated.
The Netherlands were represented by the UM team of Kevin Gomez Marrero and Austeja Ragauskaite, both in their second year of the European Law School program. The team was coached by Agustín Parise. Showing both legal acumen and highly developed interviewing skills, Kevin and Austeja made it to the finals, where they had to compete against two common law countries, Ireland and Scotland. They ended as runner-up with Scotland as winner. This is an outstanding result in a very difficult competition, in which good results largely depend on the ability to react on the spot to unexpected challenges offered by the actor-client.

Kevin also won the prize for the best individual counsellor of the competition. Last year, the competition lost its most outstanding inspirer and organizer Prof. Nancy Schultz from Chapman University(California, USA). Nancy was also well known in Maastricht, where she gave highly appreciated guest lectures on American Civil Procedure from 2014-2023. The Executive Board of the ICCC decided to institute an award in her commemoration and Kevin was the first to win it, thus making the finals a double success for the team and their coach.
The UM team and the coach are grateful to the organizers in Poland and to the UM Faculty of Law for the opportunity to participate in the finals.
