Francesco Mauri wins Maastricht Consulates Prize 2024
On 10 December, Francesco Mauri was awarded the Maastricht Consulates Prize on EU Law 2024 for the best master’s thesis on EU law at the Maastricht University Faculty of Law. This prestigious prize, valued at €1,000, recognises academic excellence and innovation in EU law.
Sharp and independent analysis
The winning thesis by Mauri analyses how the European Council impacts the institutional balance within the EU, particularly during political and economic crises. The jury praised the work as “a genuine product of academic work and stimulating addition to the literature and debate, worth of publication in a top academic journal.”
Mauri "Winning the Consulates Award is, quite frankly, a huge surprise! While I was proud of my thesis, I never expected it would earn such recognition. The award is both an acknowledgment of the effort and dedication I put into my research and a meaningful conclusion to my time at Maastricht. It’s the cherry on top of an incredible journey.”
Honourable mention
An honourable mention was awarded to Jakob Piep for a thesis on restoring the rule of law in Poland. The thesis was praised for its originality, clarity, and valuable contribution to academic debate.
