The article, published as a pre-publication for the June 2026 issue of the Common Market Law Review, is a comment on Case C-607/21, XXX v Belgian State (Proof of the relationship of dependency), EU:C:2025:264, dealing the question of the assessment of dependency of a family member on a mobile Union citizen for the purposes of family reunification in the host State: whether dependency should only be assessed at the time of arrival and based on the situation in the country of origin, or whether dependency should be maintained throughout the period of residence, creating additional burdens on the citizen and the family member.
