Prof Dr M.C.G.J. Brouwers

Martijn Brouwers is an internist-endocrinologist and head of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolic Disease at the Maastricht University Medical Centre. He is specialized in diabetes mellitus and inborn errors of metabolism.

His research focuses on the cardiometabolic consequences of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and the role of fructose herein. He employs a diverse set of studies, ranging from (genetic) epidemiology, to ‘human knockout’ models, to randomized controlled trials and experimental animal work.

His work has been picked up by several media, including regional and national newspapers (de Limburgerde Limburger, NRC, NRC) online debates (de Balie) and podcasts (Universiteit van Nederland).
