Professional career history
After studying law in Utrecht (propaedeutic exam: July 2002) and Maastricht (master of laws degrees in European Law School and Dutch Private Law: July 2008), Lotte joined the private law department where she worked as a PhD researcher and subsequently lecturer from 2008-2015. In December 2014, she defended her PhD thesis titled ‘Punitive Damages: the Civil Remedy in American Law, Lessons and Caveats for Continental Europe’. She is assistant professor (0,6 fte) since February 2016. From May 2017 until May 2021 she also worked as deputy judge in the district court Limburg. Since 1 April 2022 she is vice-chair and member of the Board of Appeal for Examinations of Maastricht University.
