Part of the chair is the biennial Dr. Lou Spronck-lecture (since 8 April 2016).

• The 1st Lou Spronck lecture was held on 28 September 2016 and given by Petra Stienen, titled "Geer zeet neet van heij......; De grenzen van het Limburgs"
• The 2nd Lou Spronck lecture was held on 13 September 2018 by Prof. Martin Paul, titled: “De grenzen van mijn taal zijn de grenzen van mijn wereld - een pleidooi voor meertaligheid". De lecture was introduced by Lou Spronck.
• The 3rd LS-lecture was presented online (in Dutch, November, 26 2021) by Dr. Michiel de Vaan and can be viewed at: https://mediasite.maastrichtuniversity.nl/Mediasite/Play/d8a20df040dd4cbebf844496c78db7811d

Limburgish is a minority language which was extended minor recognition by The Netherlands in 1997, a signatory of the 1992 European Charter for Regional and Minority Languages. About 900,000 Limburgers, 75% of the total population claim to speak a dialect. However, in the recent survey conducted by the Language Union, all domains in which people speak Limburgish have been been counted as Dutch.
