Threads of Heritage - Down the Rabbit Hole of Art Crime
The illicit trafficking of cultural heritage represents a phenomenon that transcends time and space, involving intricate networks of tombaroli, market mediators, auction houses, art dealers and museums. The Centre for Heritage & Art law Research Maastricht (CHARM) invites you to the screening of the film "Threads of Heritage. Down the Rabbit Hole of Art Crime", which explores the damage caused by clandestine excavations and complicit market players, following legal cases and international investigations. The film also highlights the role of emerging technologies to fight the illicit trafficking of cultural heritage, with a particular focus on the RITHMS software system that is currently under development within the Research, Intelligence, and Technology for Heritage and Market Security project, coordinated by the Italian Institute of Technology. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Michela De Bernardin, producer and co-screenwriter of the film, and Leonie Bouwknegt, operational specialist, policy advisor investigations with special task art related crimes.
