“Personalized Management of Post-Thrombotic Syndrome”

Post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) is a common condition following deep vein thrombosis. Curative treatment methods are currently lacking. Patients preventatively wear compression stockings for 2 years. In this thesis, a step-by-step preventive treatment strategy for PTS is drafted. The results of this thesis make it possible to calculate the individual risk of PTS and shorten the duration of use of support stockings. The cost-effectiveness analysis showed that this brings approximately millions of savings on an annual basis. It has also been shown that wearing of a bandage in the acute phase of thrombosis, before starting with the compression stockings, reduces residual thrombosis and PTS. Bandaging had no substantial benefit.
