Lecture: An Honest Conversation about Islam, Terrorism and Extremism
The Ambassador Lecture Series presents Ajmal Masroor (British Imam, Broadcaster and Politician), N. B. (Founder of Families For Life) and Karolina Dam (Founder of Sons and Daughters of the World). On November 23rd, Ajmal, N. and Karolina will come together to put into perspective the two faces of Islam - its mainstream tradition of tolerance and the radical offshoot that is now struggling for control of the whole Muslim world.
According to Ajmal Masroor, every word of the Quran and every teaching of prophet Muhammad invite human beings to lead, surrender and submit to a wholesome and peaceful lifestyle. His determination to do everything in his power to defeat extremist mantra has warranted him a spot on the hit-list of various terrorist organizations.
In spite of Ajmal’s efforts, many have come to regard Islam as synonymous with extremism and terrorism. The religion and culture of Islam are under seemingly perpetual attack due to the violence-glorifying narrative of its radical followers…
… which Karolina Dam and N.B. have, unfortunately, experienced first-hand. Karolina's 18-year-old son, Lukas, travelled to Syria in June 2014, eventually joining ISIS, and so did Rasheed, N.B.'s son, a mere year later. Both women's sons have lost their lives as a result.
Consequently, the mothers have dedicated their lives to providing guidance and counsel to other victims of extremist ideology by means of, among other projects, Mothers for Life – an unique global network of mothers who have experienced violent jihadist radicalization in their own families.
Entry to this event is free. A valid student or staff ID is required to enter the lecture hall. Seats are distributed on a first come, first serve basis.
