International finals International Client Consultation Competition 2018
The UM Faculty of Law is very proud to be hosting the international finals of the International Client Consultation Competition 2018. This is a prestigious event with no less than 21 participating countries from all continents of the globe!
In a client consultation competition, a student team of two "practicing lawyers" has to deal with a new client, coming to their office for help with a legal problem. The student team did not meet the client before and has no knowledge of the case that will be presented, so they will have to improvise on the spot and employ all their skills (interviewing, fact finding, analyzing and many more) to have a perfect interview that ends with a sound advice. The performance of the team is assessed by a professional jury, composed of a District Court judge, an attorney at law and a social worker.
The interview sessions are open for the public. They will be held on Thursday 12 April (morning and afternoon, round 1), Friday 13 April (morning and afternoon, round 2) and Saturday 14 april (morning, semi-finals). Especially the finals on Saturday 14 April in the afternoon (1 pm-5 pm) promise to be spectacular. They will be staged in the Statenzaal to accomodate a large audience.
If you have some spare time those days, we advise you to witness one or more of these teams performing. The teams won their national selection and sometimes had to beat thousands of other competitors first. So if you want to know what excellent lawyering is, this is an outstanding opportunity!
Please find more information on the competition on our ICCC 2018 website
