"Zo simpel is het niet: Resocialisatie na seksueel geweld."
Sexual violence is a sensitive topic. When we look at national and local news coverage, we see justified outrage. But we also need to get past this outrage. We need to see the person behind the crime because a person is more than the worst thing they have done. Moreover, caring for offenders also means being mindful of future victims.
Resocialization refers to “again” and the process by which someone learns to behave according to the values and norms of society. Thus, resocialization is a collaborative effort. Successfully distancing yourself from sexual behavior thus has as much to do with the perpetrator as it does with society. An important link between these two parties are professionals who provide forensic treatment and counseling to the perpetrator. In my lecture, I explain why these three perspectives are so important.
