Dennis Soemers (D.J.N.J.)
Dennis Soemers (https://dennissoemers.github.io/) is a PhD Student at Maastricht University's Department of Data Science and Knowledge Engineering (DKE). In 2016, he defended his master thesis on a General Video Game Playing agent. This research led to the first place in the General Video Game AI Championship of 2016, and a Best Student Paper Award for a conference paper at IEEE CIG 2016. After that, he has researched applications of Reinforcement Learning in authentication and credit card fraud detection at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, and afterwards continued research in Game AI within the Digital Ludeme Project at DKE. Dennis did a Research Internship at Facebook AI Research in Fall 2020. His primary research interests are Reinforcement Learning and Search algorithms.

Professional career history
Dennis received his B.Sc. and M.Sc degrees from Maastricht University's Department of Data Science and Knowledge Engineering, in 2014 and 2016, respectively. He spent two years doing research at the AI Lab of Vrije Universiteit Brussel (https://ai.vub.ac.be/), after which he returned to Maastricht for a position as PhD student in the Digital Ludeme Project (http://www.ludeme.eu/).
