Karlijn is co-director of the Maastricht Centre for Citizenship, Migration and Development (MACIMIDE), an interdisciplinary research centre bringing together researchers working on migration, mobility, citizenship, transnationalism and development.
She chairs Migrant Transnationalism (MITRA), a Standing Committee of the IMISCOE research network that promotes international academic exchange and collaboration on migrant transnationalism.
Karlijn is also a member of the Management Committee of Transnational Family Dynamics in Europe (TraFaDy), a European COST Action connecting researchers and stakeholders working on transnational families. Within TraFaDy, she co-chairs the working group on the health and well-being of transnational families.
