Dr N.P.G. Boumans

Research profile

Dr. Nicolle Boumans has been focusing on research topics in the field of the organisation, management and work of health care professionals and Health Sciences She participated, in different roles, in several scientific cross-sectional studies on quality of work and the determinants of job satisfaction, motivation and sickness absenteeism, especially in health care organizations but also in more profit-oriented companies. Furthermore, an important part of her research work focused on the evaluation of the implementation of innovative organisational models (patient/resident oriented care, integrated care models) in different fields of nursing, i.e. hospital care, nursing homes care and mental health care. In these studies different methods of process and effect evaluation were applied.

In the last years, her field of interest has expanded to work participation and reintegration of employees with chronic stress related psychological disorders. In light of the aging of the working population she also is interested in the work participation, work ability and employability of the older worker, and instruments of age-conscious personnel policy.

Furthermore, she is also focusing on workers who are combining employment with informal care giving tasks. Also attention was paid to young informal caregivers and their situation, especially the process of parentification. Recently she is studying topics related to the informal caregiver, in the home situation, e.g. self-identification, support group participation, and loneliness and isolation.

She is involved in several PhD projects and expert peer reviewer for several national and international journals.
