Subsidies for Maastricht UMC+ and Zuyderland for joint research
Eight new research projects in South Limburg are receiving funding for joint research and innovation from Maastricht UMC+ (both the academic hospital and the FHML faculty) and the top clinical hospital Zuyderland. According to both hospitals, the regional challenges—more patients, more complex care needs, staff shortages, and health disparities—call for closer collaboration. They believe that a joint research agenda contributes to improving patient care in the region. This joint research agenda has been named ZorgSamen.
The awarded projects focus on digital healthcare, lifestyle, oncology, and chronic diseases, among other things. Some studies look at how healthcare can be organised more smartly, while others focus on ways to bring new treatments into practice faster. Only mixed teams from both MUMC+ and Zuyderland were eligible for a ZorgSamen grant. Moreover, the grant could never exceed half of the total research costs.
The grants will be awarded on Tuesday, June 30, at an event at Zuyderland Medical Center in Sittard-Geleen.
