UM lifts sanctions against student association Tragos

Maastricht University is lifting sanctions against student association M.S.V. Tragos. Following the imposition of sanctions in September 2022, the association cooperated in a change plan under the guidance of an external agency, at the association's expense. The actions now taken and the ongoing change process give UM sufficient confidence that Tragos adheres to the norms, values and codes of conduct within UM and can make a positive contribution to student life in Maastricht. 

UM concludes that Tragos has taken sufficient action in response to violations during the 2022 introduction period, which led to UM sanctions against the association. 
Following a culture assessment by an external party, the association has initiated concrete actions to achieve and embed the desired culture change. For example, stricter selection is taking place for members providing induction time and the association's own codes of conduct and sanctions policy have been tightened. In cooperation with independent organisations, the association has organised training sessions on social safety and unacceptable behaviour for its members.

The lifting of sanctions means, among other things, that Tragos will be eligible for a contribution from the ‘Profileringsfonds’ for its board members in 2024-2025 and can participate in the annual INKOM ((the general introduction week for new students in Maastricht) in August. 

In the coming period, UM and Tragos will consult frequently on the progress of the improvement actions announced and implemented. Like the other Maastricht student associations, Tragos will again be invited to sign the new 'code of conduct introduction period' for student associations.
