In memory of Jan Simon

Jan began working for the General and Legal Affairs Service at UM in 1975, as the first Head of the Documentation and Mail Services Department.

Jan was involved in the initial founding and further development of the university’s mail and documentation services department, making an important contribution to the provision of administrative information within UM. From the outset, Jan was strongly committed to building a full-fledged department. Many young employees were recruited and given the opportunity to become further qualified through a training programme. Jan was very dedicated to his field, attaching a great deal of value to complete dossiers which management and policy officers could rely on.

The annual departmental outings which Jan organised were acclaimed by all, and these will remain in our memories for many years to come. Jan had a heart for his staff and provided a pleasant working atmosphere, always creating a relaxed mood with his sense of humour.

Jan retired early in mid-2001, and despite health issues was still able to enjoy a few years together with his family.

We extend our sincere sympathy to his wife Els, their children and grandchildren as they cope with this loss.
