Mozambican NGOs trained in intervention mapping
In 2022 Mundo implemented a project in which nine members of staff of Amodefa and Lambda, two Mozambican NGOs active in the field of sexual health and reproductive rights were trained in intervention mapping. Their staff were trained by Prof. Rob Ruiter and Prof. Kai Jonas, both of the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience at Maastricht. The training was funded by Nuffic in the framework of the Orange Knowledge Programme.
AMODEFA is a national NGO with over 30 years of experience in the provision of Sexual reproductive health and rights, safe abortion, gender-based violence, LGBT health care and rights also acting as HIV community care and linkage partner. Amodefa is active in 10 provinces of Mozambique and has robust infrastructure, with over 300 national staff. AMODEFA currently operates 120 clinics nationwide and 4 AMODEFA youth health friendly clinics
Lambda is the leading organization of Mozambican citizens who advocate for the recognition of the Human Rights of LGBT people (lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transsexuals). Lambda aims to improve its interventions focused on the prevention of HIV Aids.

Intervention Mapping, developed by researchers of Maastricht University, is a protocol for the design of health promotion and behavior change programs, guiding health promoters through a series of steps that assists them in theory-based and evidence-based program development.
The training consisted of three phases. In June, staff of AMODEFA and Lamda were trained in intervention mapping in a one -week workshop in Maputo, Mozambique. In the subsequent three months the trainees applied this method to some of their own interventions in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights. In September the trainees presented the results of their work in Maastricht. They concluded the visit to the Netherlands with exchange visits to Dutch organisations that are also active in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights including: Rutgers in Utrecht, COC and Choice4Youth in Amsterdam, and RNE media in Haarlem.
