Prof. Marjolein Drent made Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau
Marjolein Drent, professor of interstitial lung diseases at UM and pulmonologist for the ILD Expertise Centre at the St. Antonius Hospital in Nieuwegein, is both a founder and one of the driving forces behind the idl care foundation.
This foundation aims to provide education about and conduct multidisciplinary research into interstitial lung diseases (ild). These are relatively unknown or rare lung diseases caused by toxic substances that reach the lungs via inhalation or through the bloodstream. Because relatively few people know about these lung diseases, patients often find it hard to explain what they are going through, and what the disease involves.
During the anniversary symposium of the ild care foundation Gerrie Ligtelijn-Bruins, deputy mayor of the city of Ede, praised the efforts of the foundation and the research that prof. Drent has conducted. She followed her praise up with the words, "It has pleased His Royal Highness Willem Alexander to grant..." and presented the decoration to a surprised and emotional Drent.
