Appointments to Supervisory Board
Minister Bussemaker has appointed Professor Marc Groenhuijsen as a member of the Maastricht University Supervisory Board for a period of four years, starting on 1 September 2015. She also extended the appointment of Supervisory Board chair Truze Lodder for a period of two years.
Marc Groenhuijsen is professor of Criminal Procedural Law and Victimology at Tilburg University. He served as dean of the Faculty of Law from 1992 to 1995 and is a part-time judge in the Rotterdam District Court and in the Arnhem Court of Appeals. Since 2006, he has been a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW). Groenhuijsen is a leading scholar whose expertise, extensive administrative and supervisory knowledge, and international network will undoubtedly enrich the existing expertise and capabilities of the current Supervisory Board.
With the reappointment of Truze Lodder for another two years, the minister acknowledges the importance of ensuring continuity in the Supervisory Board. Truze Lodder was appointed a member of the Supervisory Board in 2007 and became chair on 1 January 2014, following the departure of former chair Ad Veenhof. At the request of the current members, the minister can extend this reappointment so that mrs. Lodder can serve a full four-year term as chair.
The Supervisory Board oversees the policy of the Executive Board and the general affairs of the university. In addition to playing a supervisory role, it also serves as a sounding board and adviser for the Executive Board. The Supervisory Board is directly accountable to the Minister of Education, Culture and Science. With the recent appointment the Supervisory Board consists of Truze Lodder (chair), Ursula Nelles, Renk Roborgh, Koos Van Haasteren and Marc Groenhuijsen.
The profile of the Supervisory Board is aligned with the developments and strategies of Maastricht University, with a focus on UM's Strategic Programme, the Knowledge Axis Limburg, performance agreements, and quality assurance. The board ensures the diversity of its members in terms of their profile, age, gender, and sociocultural and scientific background.
