Microscopy CORE Lab
Microscopy CORE Lab is part of the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences (FHML) of Maastricht University, specialising in life sciences and medicine. We are an open access research platform collaborating with Maastricht University, Maastricht UMC+ and external scientists in the microscopy field.
Our lab provides advanced light and electron microscopy imaging techniques, as well as facilities for sample preparation and software. We organize courses to train scientists and technicians in conventional and advanced optical microscopy, cryo-LM, cryo-CLEM and conventional and advanced EM including advanced cryo-EM methods, as well as data processing and image analysis. Microscopy CORE Lab is a state-of-the-art infrastructure which aims to stay at the cutting edge of microscopy technology.
Mission and vision
The Microscopy CORE Lab takes its name from 'Collaborative Open Research & Education' at Maastricht University. The Lab collaborates with researchers and serves as a training centre for scientists and technicians in light and electron microscopy. We support the research of our users in the application of both traditional and modern technologies related to microscopy imaging and the microscopy support of clinical diagnosis and treatment.
We aim to advance and expand scientific knowledge, and to improve diagnosis and treatments by providing open access to state-of-the-art technology. This includes developing workflows and methods for sample preparation, adapting these to diverse samples and research questions, developing new or implementing emerging technologies and educating and training users.
