Prof Dr R.K. Truckenmüller
Roman Truckenmüller earned his diploma and doctorate in engineering science from the Universities of Stuttgart and Karlsruhe, Germany, respectively. After working as a development engineer at Siemens in Erlangen, Germany, he joined the Institute for Microstructure Technology (IMT) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). At IMT, he completed his doctoral research on the fabrication of three-dimensional microstructures from polymer membranes. At the same institute, he then worked as a postdoctoral researcher in X-ray lithography and led a research group focused on membrane-based microfluidic sensors and actuators from polymers. After this, he worked at the Department of Tissue Regeneration (TR) of the University of Twente (UT), The Netherlands, where he was appointed assistant professor in 2010. In 2014, he transitioned from UT to the successor of TR, to the MERLN Institute for Technology-Inspired Regenerative Medicine of Maastricht University. There, he began as an associate professor and in 2019 was promoted to full professor of Micro Tissue Engineering. Roman is also co-founder and co‑CEO of the company 300MICRONS, which was spun off from KIT in 2015 and specializes in advanced 3D cell culture solutions based on proprietary polymer film-based microtechnologies.
