On the 28th until 31st of January Maastricht University hosted one of the regional finals of the European Law Moot Court competition.

MCEL associate scholar Florin Coman-Kund has successfully defended his PhD thesis entitled “Europen Union Agencies as Global Actors - A Legal Study of the European Aviation Safety Agency, Frontex and Europol”. His dissertation was supervised by MCEL members Ellen Vos and Andrea Ott.
 

Prof. Susan Rose-Ackerman, Henry R. Luce Professor of Jurisprudence at Yale University, received an honorary doctorate from the University of Maastricht (UM) in the Netherlands on the occasion of its fortieth anniversary  on January 11, 2016. 

Charlotte A Campo’s LLB thesis was awarded by the Board of the Stichting Wetenschapsbeoefening UM as last year’s best bachelor thesis of the European Law School.

Jan Smits wrote an editorial for the Zeitschrift für Europäisches Privatrecht 2016 (pp. 319-324) on New European Proposals for Distance Sales and Digital Contents Contracts: Fit for Purpose?

On Sunday, 17 January 2016, MCEL member dr. Anniek de Ruijter was a guest in ‘Buitenhof', a Dutch national television programme to speak with Yasmine Allas about the debate after the terrible sexual violence that took place in Keulen. The Programme is in Dutch.

Prof. Bruno De Witte has published an article entitled 'Euro Crisis Responses and the EU Legal Order: Increased Institutional Variation or Constitutional Mutation?' in the latest issue of the European Constitutional Law Review (11:3, pp.434-457).

The Institute for Corporate Law, Governance and Innovation Policies celebrated its very first lustrum on the 20th of November 2015. This lustrum conference was organized in cooperation with DVDW Advocaten, one of ICGI’s partner law firms and supported by the Universiteitsfonds Limburg/SWOL.
