Students Campus Venlo win first and third position

Vegan cheese wins Dutch preliminary round Ecotrophelia

The Totally Nuts team from Maastricht University has won the Dutch preliminary round of the European student competition with the vegan cheese they developed. The students managed to process a residual stream from almond milk production into a tasty vegan option for white cheese.

After two years of being organized online, the preliminary round was able to take place again this year as a physical event. Over 70 participants and spectators watched eight teams compete for a ticket to the European finals at Maastricht University's Campus Venlo. The entries were very diverse and of a high standard. All ideas focused on both sustainability and health. The teams came from Aeres University of Applied Sciences, InHolland, Van Hall Larenstein and Maastricht University.

Snail chips

Third place was taken by Team Snailed It from Maastricht University. The team has developed a protein-rich chip based on snail meat that may be of interest to athletes. The team wants to launch the product in France initially and from there conquer other European countries.

Winners pitch at AgriFoodTop and FNLI Annual Meeting

Cees-Jan Adema, director of FNLI, announced the winners. FNLI is closely involved in Ecotrophelia. The federation supports the student teams with coaches and workshops and makes part of the prize money available. Totally nuts may present its concept during the AgriFoodTop and during the annual meeting of FNLI where several hundred decision makers from the food industry come together.
