UM chair Rianne Letschert nominated as Minister of Education, Culture and Science
Rianne Letschert, chair of the UM Executive Board, has been nominated as Minister of Education, Culture and Science (OCW). She is scheduled to be formally appointed and sworn in on 23 February, together with the other members of the new cabinet.
The proposed ministerial position will bring an end to Rianne's nine-year association with UM, first as rector magnificus and, from November 2021, as chair of the Executive Board. Before her departure, Rianne would like to share her decision with the UM community and briefly look back on her years at UM. Together with Rianne, UM is looking into the possibility of a fitting farewell later this year.
Rector magnificus Pamela Habibovic and vice-chair Jan-Tjitte Meindersma will take over Rianne's duties for the time being and are in talks with the Supervisory Board about the succession process. Further information will follow as soon as more is known.
UM rector Pamela Habibovic on behalf of the Executive Board: “I am convinced that I speak on behalf of the entire UM community when I say that we will miss Rianne very much. But above all, we look back with satisfaction on more than nine years in which Rianne helped lead UM with her unique ability to connect and persuade. In short: unfortunate for us, good for The Hague. Later this year, we hope we will be able to celebrate with Rianne what we have achieved together in recent years, for UM and for the region.”
