The Econometric Game is a yearly event in Amsterdam, often dubbed as the World Championships of Econometrics, and took place this year from April 10th to April 12th. Maastricht University has been a consistent participant in the game for the last ten years, battling it out with the likes of Harvard University, Universidad Carlos III, and the University of Monash for eternal glory.
We are proud to announce that team SBE came in 2nd place during this final case, and therefore also placed 2nd of all 30 teams!

The finishing line of Green Impact, UM’s sustainability competition, is fast approaching. The Faculty of Science and Engineering’s team is doing very well - even if their numbers-based approach at times fretted against the general focus on awareness over solutions…

Dilek Kurban has been awarded one of the five Research Prizes from the Praemium Erasmianum Foundation for her PhD dissertation titled ‘The Limits of Transnational Justice: The European Court of Human Rights, Turkey and the Kurdish Conflict’. Dilek earned his doctorate from the Faculty of Law on 23 February 2018. The prize comes with a €3,000 grant and a certificate.

The project by master's students Debbie Markusse and Rachita Munshi won a prize in the annual 'Stadsgoud' competition, organised by the Elisabeth Strouven Fonds.

In 2018, European Studies alum Joost van den Akker became one of the regional ministers of Limburg, “the most international province of the Netherlands”. In his eyes, the university is a “European musketeer” whose pursuit of internationalisation and Europe is a winning model.
