Meet the members of the EDLAB Education Research Sounding Board!
Diana HJM Dolmans, FHML
Diana HJM Dolmans is a full professor in the field of educational sciences. Her research focuses on key success factors of innovative curricula within higher education. She takes a special interest in understanding how to optimize the learning environment, from both a practical and theoretical perspective. Her topics of interest are problem-based learning, faculty development, and quality enhancement. Fostering educational innovations based on theories in education and in close collaboration with various stakeholders to advance practice and our understanding about education within the FHML and Maastricht University at large drives her motivation to be involved as sounding board member of EDLAB. She is chair of the Department of Educational Development and Research (O&O-ERD), FHML, and a researcher within the School of Health Professions Education (SHE), FHML. Finally, she is an editorial board member of several international journals, has published over 200 peer reviewed manuscripts in various refereed international journals, and she has supervised 28 PhD candidates through to completion in education research.

Carolin Sehlbach, FHML
Carolin Sehlbach is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences (FHML), and School of Health Professions Education (SHE). Her research interests are in the field of lifelong learning and Continuing Professional Development and stakeholder involvement, be that in the context of person-centred care or student-centered learning. She is a member of the taskforce Programme Evaluation at FHML where she focuses on the domain Biomedical Sciences. With her position in the taskforce, she focuses on Quality Enhancement in education and aims to continuously strengthen a quality culture. As a member of the EDLAB education research sounding board, she uses her interest and experience in educational quality and educational research and hopes to inspire members of the UM community to contribute to enhanced educational quality through research.

Trudie Schils, SBE
Trudie Schils is a full professor in Education Economics at Maastricht University and a crown member of the National Educational Council (onderwijsraad). Her research is based on the notion that we can only improve education by structural collaboration between educational researchers from various disciplines and educational practitioners. She believes we need all these perspectives! That also motivates her to be part of the EDLAB research sounding board: in this way she hopes to contribute to such collaborations and knowledge build-up, and to continue learning herself.

Bas Giesbers, SBE
Bas Giesbers is an assistant professor at the Department of Educational Research and Development of the School of Business and Economics. Building on a background in educational psychology, his 20+ year work experience largely revolves around technology-enhanced learning (TEL), both as educational designer and trainer as well as researcher. Recent and current research includes projects with a focus on enhancing self-regulated learning through TEL, collaborative educational design processes, Learning Analytics, Gamification, enhancing student feedback, and improving Student Evaluation of Teaching. Being part of the sounding board allows him to interact with colleagues of all faculties to learn about how to best improve the educational experience both for students and faculty, and empower colleagues across the university to engage in this quest.

Anke Sambeth, FPN
Anke Sambeth is an associate professor at the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience, working in the field of educational neuroscience. Together with peers from the various faculties, she was involved in establishing and bringing visibility to educational research at Maastricht University, an area of expertise now embedded in EDLAB. She has a background in both neuropsychology and educational sciences, and her main aim is to connect the two fields in order to improve education in various settings. As a member of the EDLAB Education Research Sounding Board, Anke hopes to bring knowledge about educational research into all faculties, so that even more colleagues can start working in this field.

Martijn Boussé, FSE
Martijn Boussé, PhD is a lecturer at the Department of Advanced Computing Sciences, FSE, where he teaches math courses in data science and engineering programs, coordinates bachelor projects, and trains PhD candidates in presenting skills. His passion is to help others in their quest to grow to their full potential. As a teacher, he believes it's his responsibility to give students the best learning experience that he can muster. Education research is therefore crucial: it can help us, students and teachers together, to understand and improve our shared practice. As a junior education researcher, he deeply appreciates being part of the sounding board to learn, grow, and share his vision.

Johan Adriaensen, FASoS
Johan Adriaensen is an assistant professor of European Politics at FASoS. He is the faculty coordinator for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and chairs the ECPR Standing Group on Teaching and Learning Politics. In terms of educational research, Johan is interested in curricular design and teaching efficiency. Although he enjoys teaching, it didn't come naturally to him. Researching solutions for the challenges he encountered gradually led him to delve into educational research. He transitioned from being a passive consumer to actively conducting research himself. As a member of the EDLAB Education Research Sounding Board, he aims to contribute the perspective and experience of an incidental educationalist—interested and engaged, but in a more 'part-time' capacity.

Jennifer Sellin, LAW
Jennifer Sellin is an Assistant Professor at the Department of International Law and the Faculty of Law’s UTQ (university teaching qualification) coordinator. My current research and teaching focuses on international human rights, socio-economic rights, health and gender in particular. As UTQ coordinator I facilitate and coach staff members’ professional development as educators. I find it particularly rewarding seeing (junior) colleagues delving into various aspects of education research and implementing their newly gained insights in their educational practice. As a member of the EDLAB Education Research Sounding Board we have the privilege to provide motivated staff members with a stepping-stone into education research.
