Jo Dorscheidt (J.H.H.M.)

Graduated in 1989 from Maastricht University (at the time State University of Limburg) in Dutch Law with a profile in Health Law, I've taught Health Law & Ethics at Zuyd University of Applied Sciences. In 2001, I started working as a lecturer in Health Law at the University Medical Centre Groningen (UMCG), followed in 2003 by a similar assignment at the Faculty of Law of the University of Groningen. In 2006, I received my Ph.D. in Groningen on an analysis of end-of-life decisions in neonatology in view of Article 2 CRC. Later, I was appointed alternate juvenile judge at the District Court Groningen. Apart from that, I became a member of the Dutch Health Council (Section Ethics & Law) and of the Central Committee on Medical Research involving Human Subjects (CCMO).

As of January 2023, I am appointed Associate Professor of Health Law at the Faculty of Law of Maastricht University, while remaining (on Mondays) an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law in Groningen.

My main research interests involve children's rights issues in health care, legal matters of medical professionalism and dilemma's at the beginning and the end of life. In Maastricht, I aim to initiate and participate in legal research in the area of labour, health & social security as well, apart from involvements in studies concerning criminal law & health care.
